A tragic incident unfolded when a firefighter responded to a car crash only to discover that the victim was his own son. The heartbreaking event took place in the early hours of October 26 on Baldu-L’Agnata road in Tempio Pausania, Italy. Omar Masia, 25, was with friends in a BMW when the vehicle swerved on Baldu Bridge, breaking through the railings and plummeting 10 meters into a dry riverbed.

Omar, who was seated in the back, was fatally crushed when the roof collapsed, and he died instantly. His father, Massimiliano Masia, also a firefighter, was one of the first to find his son’s lifeless body at the scene. The other passengers managed to alert emergency services, with two of them escaping the wreckage despite sustaining injuries.

Upon reaching the scene, Massimiliano recognized some of his son’s friends and learned that Omar was trapped inside the car. Despite efforts to revive him, Omar could not be saved. The survivors were taken to the hospital, with one already discharged.

Omar, an electrician from Calangianus, met a tragic end in the accident. The Sassari Fire Brigade expressed deep sorrow for Mr. Masia, stating that he faced an unimaginable pain at the loss of his beloved son. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to assess the road conditions.

The driver, who was slightly over the legal alcohol limit, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. The incident has prompted authorities to inspect other bridges in the vicinity for safety concerns.
