A routine court proceeding turned chaotic when a 28-year-old man, accused of killing his 20-year-old girlfriend Eileen Pelt, attacked the presiding judge during his trial. The accused, David Paradiso, shocked the courtroom by callously stating that Eileen “deserved to die” when questioned about his actions.
The atmosphere grew tense as his family claimed his mental health issues rendered him unfit to testify. Amid the turmoil, David’s mother, distressed, left the courtroom prompting the judge to call for a recess. As the jury exited, chaos erupted when David leaped out of the witness box and assaulted Judge Cinda Fox with a homemade weapon, resulting in a fatal confrontation.
Detective Eric Bradley, who had investigated David’s case, intervened by shooting the assailant to prevent further harm. David’s mother later expressed her belief that her son, plagued by mental illness, had deliberately provoked the incident to meet a tragic end.
David had been incarcerated for two years awaiting trial and was found with methamphetamine in his system. Despite his mother’s prior warning to authorities about his possession of a weapon, the tragic outcome could not be averted. Expressing frustration at the failure to prevent the violence, David’s family lamented the lack of action despite his documented mental health issues.
In a heartbreaking conclusion, David’s brother questioned the finality of the situation, underscoring the devastating impact of the events that transpired.
