The Ottawa Rapid have appointed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Moscato, a Canada Soccer Hall of Famer who has participated in three Women’s World Cups and claimed a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics, brings a wealth of experience to the position after coaching stints in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
Replacing current head coach Katrine Pedersen, who announced her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the end of the season, Moscato has signed a two-season deal with the Rapid. She will begin working with the team this year to prepare for the upcoming 2027 season, with a focus on recruitment and strategy.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert praised Moscato’s leadership qualities and coaching expertise, emphasizing her profound understanding of Canadian soccer. Moscato expressed her excitement to contribute to the team’s progress, stating, “The Rapid have laid a solid foundation in a short span of time. I am eager to continue that momentum and cultivate an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest level.”
Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa Rapid has been on a winning streak since late May. The team’s next match is scheduled in Calgary this Saturday at 4 p.m., and fans can watch it live on CBC Gem.
