The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the recent tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) revealed that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages spread across three years. Additionally, a new “duty period premium” has been introduced to compensate for ground duties. The agreement also encompasses enhanced time off, raised food and uniform allowances, and various other provisions.
Amid a long weekend for many, WestJet flights were grounded across a significant portion of Canada as the deadline for a strike by 4,400 flight attendants approached. The strike commenced early Sunday, prompting the airline and the union to swiftly reach a tentative resolution by early Monday, leading to a gradual normalization of WestJet operations.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
