The Prime Minister has made a strong commitment to support future generations by announcing a series of agreements aimed at advancing the “clean energy revolution.” Keir Starmer is scheduled to attend COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, where he will emphasize the economic potential of clean energy in the 21st century, highlighting its ability to create jobs and foster growth.
In parallel, government officials have revealed partnerships with various companies, including ScottishPower, JERA Nex bp, EnBW, and Statera Energy. The Prime Minister emphasized the significant investment of £50 billion into clean energy sectors in the UK within the last year, with an anticipated creation of 800,000 jobs by the end of the decade.
He stated, “Our focus remains on propelling the clean power revolution forward – enhancing energy security, lowering bills permanently, and stimulating growth in communities nationwide. By generating skilled, well-paying jobs in regions like Great Yarmouth, Belfast, and Greater Manchester, we are actively renewing the nation and advocating for the interests of working individuals across the UK.”
Furthermore, upcoming initiatives include financial support exceeding £100 million to Belfast Harbour for the development of two major offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea. Additionally, Carrington in Greater Manchester is set to host one of the largest battery facilities in the UK.
Noteworthy investments are also earmarked for the Port of East Anglia, with £15 million allocated for a new operations and maintenance center as part of a broader £28 million upgrade. ScottishPower’s backing of the East Anglia TWO windfarm in the North Sea is expected to create further employment opportunities.
Echoing a strong commitment to the nation’s energy objectives, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband affirmed, “The UK’s stance at COP30 is clear: collaborative efforts to combat climate change lead to favorable job prospects, energy stability, and economic progress – it’s time to take action.”
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister emphasized the dual responsibility of safeguarding the planet for future generations and securing hundreds of thousands of jobs in the UK while addressing students.
