A motorist was pulled over by authorities on the M6 in Warwickshire and given a citation for violating a driving rule that he was likely not aware of. Police stopped the surprised driver after observing him driving at speeds between 55mph and 60mph in the middle lane, a practice known as middle-lane hogging.
Warwickshire Police labeled the behavior as “poor driving conduct” and noted an increase in similar incidents where drivers seem oblivious to the risks involved. The police unit mentioned in a Facebook statement that the driver was cruising in the middle lane without any slower traffic or obstructions in the left lane.
The driver was escorted off the motorway and issued a ticket for failing to show reasonable consideration for other road users, possibly leading to enrollment in a driver improvement course with associated fees. Authorities emphasized the importance of maintaining appropriate lane discipline, highlighting that driving significantly below the speed limit in the overtaking lane without any valid reason could result in penalties, including points on the driving license and a fine.
It is crucial for drivers to adhere to lane discipline, primarily keeping to the left unless overtaking or avoiding obstacles, to prevent unnecessary congestion and ensure road safety.
