Niagara Falls Murder Suspect Arrested in Montreal, Second Fugitive Still at Large

Authorities have captured one of the two suspects sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16. Josta MacNeal was apprehended by the Montreal Police Service and is set to be extradited to Ontario. MacNeal, aged 30, faces a second-degree murder charge in the killing of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon. The second suspect, Maaroof Bangi, 23, remains on the run, and police have classified him as armed and dangerous as no weapon has been recovered.

Niagara Regional Police have issued a warning advising the public not to approach Bangi if spotted and to immediately contact 911. They have urged Bangi to seek legal counsel and surrender himself to the authorities. The incident took place at an apartment complex on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls, where the suspects shot Snoddon before fleeing the scene. Despite efforts to save him, Snoddon succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Law enforcement believes the shooting was a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence. Surveillance footage of the suspects was released earlier, prompting a public appeal for information on their whereabouts. Initially reported to be driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV, the suspects were later sighted in a 2016 Toyota Camry with distinctive damage. Detectives suspect that the fugitives may attempt to alter their appearances to evade capture, including changing hair length and color, makeup, clothing, and facial hair styles.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
