“British Columbia Ends State of Emergency, Wildfire Threat Persists”

Must Read

British Columbia’s forests minister has announced the conclusion of the provincewide state of emergency linked to wildfires, though the wildfire threat persists. The emergency was initially declared in response to the Bald Range wildfire, which prompted the evacuation of numerous residents in the Summerland area. The state of emergency had been extended but is now deemed unnecessary, as stated by Forests Minister Ravi Parmar during a press briefing in Summerland. While acknowledging the ongoing wildfire season, Parmar emphasized that the emergency tools are no longer required at this time.

Tourists are encouraged to revisit the Okanagan region to support local businesses recovering from the wildfires. Parmar highlighted the importance of aiding communities like Summerland by patronizing local establishments and contributing to the local economy.

Additionally, the B.C. Wildfire Service has declared the lifting of the offroad vehicle ban that was enforced in various regions across the province. The ban is scheduled to be lifted by Friday at noon PT. Improved conditions and the forecast of cooler, wetter weather have enabled the rescinding of these restrictions. The wildfire service continues to monitor the wildfire risk, and prohibitions may be reinstated or lifted based on changing conditions.

Earlier in August, the province had prohibited the recreational use of offroad vehicles on Crown land in the Kamloops Fire Centre, Southeast Fire Centre, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal fire centres.
