Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to make a visit to Canada next week, as reported by sources familiar with the matter. The Globe and Mail initially broke the news, which has now been corroborated by two separate sources. It is anticipated that Zelenskyy’s visit to Canada may involve two stops.
Zelenskyy’s previous visit to Canada occurred in December, during which he held discussions with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before proceeding to the U.S. for talks with President Donald Trump regarding efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Prime Minister’s Office has chosen not to provide any comments on the upcoming visit.
Reports of the visit emerge as Russian President Vladimir Putin mentions that several nations, including the U.S. and China, stand prepared to assist in reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Putin emphasized that ultimately, the resolution of the conflict should come from the involved parties, Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed optimism during a press briefing in Kyiv, stating that there is a new momentum in peace initiatives with increased political and diplomatic engagement in various global capitals. Following 4½ years of Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II, both sides seldom express positive outlooks on peace prospects, with their last mediated talks occurring in February.
