Ukraine under Siege: Russia Launches Drone Attack

Must Read

Russia launched a significant attack on Ukraine by deploying over 650 drones and fifty missiles, leading to extensive damage and widespread blackouts across the country. The assault resulted in at least two fatalities in Zaporizhzhia and left 17 individuals severely injured, including six children, amidst mounting pressure from the US to cease hostilities.

The assault extended to Western communities near the Polish border, prompting Polish fighter jets to be on alert in case any missiles crossed the border. The attack involved various advanced weaponry such as Kinzhal air-launched missiles, ballistic explosives, Kh-101 cruise missiles, and lethal “kamikaze” Shahed drones.

Multiple regions in Ukraine were put on high alert as air defense systems were activated, leading to injuries, property damage, and fires. Although no casualties were reported in Kyiv, drones specifically targeted the city, possibly aiming to disrupt civilian access to heating facilities.

Zaporizhzhia endured relentless strikes for hours, with at least 20 drones and eight missiles targeting the region, resulting in the destruction of an entire apartment building. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the severity of the attacks, stating that despite several drones being intercepted, some hits were still successful.

Additionally, the city of Dnipro was struck by ballistic missiles overnight, with 22 drones being downed in the Dnipropetrovsk area. Unusually, regions far from the frontline were also under attack by Russian forces.

Explosions in Ivano-Frankivsk signaled the targeting of the region by cruise missiles, leading to power outages as the energy infrastructure came under direct attack. The Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant near the city, a critical link in Ukraine’s power supply network connecting with neighboring countries, faced damage but is expected to be restored.

Further attacks in the Mykolaiv and Lviv regions caused significant power disruptions and damaged energy facilities, with the city of Ladyzhyn in the Vinnytsia region left without essential services. Poland responded by mobilizing its air force and increasing alert levels in anticipation of potential threats from Russian missile and drone activities.

As the situation intensifies, both Ukrainian and neighboring countries’ defense forces remain on high alert, ready to respond to any further aggression from Russia.
