A warning has been issued regarding a winter bug that could cause discomfort for individuals. Health experts are advising individuals to stay home for 48 hours if they display symptoms associated with the bug.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) recently updated its guidance on social media, urging Brits to self-isolate for two days after the symptoms of norovirus, also known as the ‘winter vomiting bug’, disappear. Norovirus is highly contagious and can lead to vomiting and diarrhea.
Recent data shows a rise in norovirus cases in England in recent weeks. The UKHSA emphasized the unpleasant nature of diarrhoea and vomiting bugs like norovirus, suggesting measures to reduce transmission. The NHS also supports these recommendations on its website.
Norovirus symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, high temperature, headaches, stomach cramps, and body aches, can manifest suddenly. To prevent the spread of the virus, the NHS recommends self-isolation for those experiencing symptoms and additional preventive measures.
In case of prolonged diarrhoea for more than seven days or vomiting lasting more than two days, individuals are advised to contact 111 for assistance. Current data from the UK Health Security Agency indicates slightly elevated norovirus levels compared to the usual seasonal average.
While norovirus activity has remained within expected levels, there has been a recent increase in cases. For detailed information, the UKHSA provides data on norovirus surveillance reports.
