Nigel Farage is being urged to end his silent stance following controversial comments made by Reform MP Sarah Pochin about the portrayal of Black and Asian individuals in advertisements. Anna Turley, the Labour Party chair, has written to Farage questioning his lack of response to Pochin’s remarks on Talk TV, where she expressed frustration at seeing non-white people in commercials.
Turley condemned Pochin’s statements as racist and called out Farage for not taking action. Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Deputy PM David Lammy have also criticized Pochin’s comments, with Lammy emphasizing the need for accountability and an apology.
Pochin has since apologized for any offense caused but maintained her belief that many adverts do not accurately represent British society. Streeting criticized her apology as insincere and accused her of only regretting being called out.
Lammy labeled Pochin’s remarks as mean and racist, expressing disappointment in her lack of understanding and insensitivity towards diversity. He called on Farage to take decisive action and denounced Pochin’s comments as unacceptable.
As of now, Reform UK has not provided any public statements on the issue. Turley has called on Farage to clarify the party’s stance and take appropriate measures regarding Pochin’s comments.
