“Passenger Challenges Airline Fine Over Bag Size”

Must Read

An easyJet passenger shared her experience of challenging the airline’s fine for an oversized bag. Louise Machin was surprised when she was charged €58 (£51) at Chania Airport in Crete for her supposedly large suitcase, despite her prior measurements matching the requirements.

After contacting the bag manufacturer to confirm compliance, easyJet reimbursed Machin. This incident reflects a broader issue highlighted by consumer group Which?, pointing out discrepancies in airport bag sizers leading to unjust fines for passengers.

Machin, a professional in film and TV sales, faced the ordeal on her return journey, where ground staff questioned her bag’s size. Despite her efforts to prove compliance, she was forced to pay to avoid travel disruption.

Upon verifying her bag’s conformity with easyJet’s guidelines through the manufacturer, Cabin Max, Machin successfully reclaimed the fine. Such incidents have raised concerns about inaccurate bag sizers causing unwarranted penalties, prompting airlines like Ryanair to incentivize staff in catching oversized bags.

Which? advises passengers wrongly fined to challenge such fees confidently. Despite easyJet’s assertion of no sizer faults, Machin’s case prompted a refund, emphasizing the importance of customer feedback in resolving such issues effectively.
