Sabrina Gervais, a mother, healthcare professional, and seasoned flag football player, is aiming to add “Olympian” to her list of achievements as she leads Canada’s national women’s team into the 2026 world championship. The team’s goal is not only to compete for a gold medal but also to secure a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, where flag football will make its Olympic debut.
Gervais expressed her excitement, stating, “It would be realizing a dream I would’ve never dreamt before.” She emphasized the importance of staying healthy and maintaining her leadership role within the team to increase their chances of success.
The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championship kicks off in Düsseldorf, Germany, with Canada scheduled to play against Panama, Brazil, and Japan. The top two teams will earn Olympic berths, with the possibility of a third spot if the United States reaches the gold-medal game due to their host status.
Canada, a strong contender for the gold medal, is looking to build on its success from previous competitions. Gervais remains optimistic about facing Mexico, focusing on learning from past encounters and giving their best performance.
In addition to her football career, Gervais, a 36-year-old from Maskinonge, Que., balances being a mother of twins and working full-time as an osteopath and kinesiologist.
