Labour MP Calvin Bailey, a former Royal Air Force member with over 24 years of service, has criticized remarks made by Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin and Conservative MP Robert Jenrick, labeling them as “racist.”
Bailey, representing Leyton and Wanstead, emphasized the importance of diversity in shaping society and accused Pochin and Jenrick of betraying their communities with divisive comments.
Jenrick faced backlash for expressing discontent over the lack of white faces during a visit to Birmingham, advocating for better integration. Pochin stirred controversy by lamenting the presence of Black and Asian individuals in advertisements.
Bailey highlighted the significance of Remembrance Sunday in honoring veterans who stood for values like dignity and unity. He stressed the need to reflect on the kind of society we aspire to build, urging unity over division.
The MP condemned the recent comments from Pochin and Jenrick, denouncing them as racist and exclusionary. He emphasized that diversity enriches British society, pointing to the contributions of individuals from varied backgrounds, including Commonwealth soldiers and NHS workers.
Bailey called out the MPs for their divisive rhetoric, emphasizing that inclusivity is crucial in nation-building. He urged for a society that embraces all its members and values progress over regression.
As a veteran and a Black British man, Bailey emphasized the importance of standing up against exclusionary attitudes and upholding the values of dignity and unity for a brighter future.
