Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler has shared that he and his partner, Daisy, were deeply affected by the passing of Daisy’s grandmother while they were in the midst of filming the popular show.
In a recent interview, the 35-year-old opened up about how the heartbreaking news initially led him to consider leaving the show, but it was Daisy’s encouragement that ultimately convinced him to stay. He mentioned that this personal tragedy served as a driving force behind his notably confrontational and contentious behavior during the show’s round-table discussions.
“Daisy’s nan passed away during filming,” Marler revealed to The Times. “The producers were aware of her terminal condition, and I approached them saying I couldn’t continue.”
Despite a lackluster performance from his team, Marler managed to survive several elimination rounds, making it to the final episode where his keen observation skills identified the remaining traitors. However, his efforts fell short as he was ultimately ousted from the competition, with Alan emerging as the victor.
Marler also disclosed that there were discrepancies in the contestants’ payment, contrary to initial reports suggesting a uniform £40,000 fee for all participants. He clarified that he received a lower amount and expressed his nonchalance about the payment differences.
Reflecting on his experience on the show, Marler shared insights about his strategic moves and interactions with fellow contestants, particularly praising his competitor Nick Mohammed. Despite not clinching the top spot, Marler commended the ultimate winner, Alan Carr, as a deserving champion.
Marler’s journey on the show highlighted his ability to navigate challenging situations and his resilience in the face of personal loss, ultimately leaving a mark on the program with his distinct approach and determination.
