Moise Bombito made a decision following a discussion with Canadian national team coach Jesse Marsch. Despite facing physical challenges, the 26-year-old defender was committed to participating in the FIFA World Cup held in his home country.
Bombito is scheduled for another surgery on his left tibia as announced by his club, Nice. The French Ligue 1 team revealed that the Montreal native was experiencing persistent pain, leading to a leg scan and the decision for surgery.
In an interview with Nice, Bombito shared that the national team coach emphasized the importance of his presence at the World Cup. Despite his leg issues, Bombito immediately agreed to represent his country on the big stage.
After fracturing his tibia in October, Bombito recovered in time to play for Canada in the recent tournament. He contributed to three out of five games, showing resilience even though he struggled during the knockout match against South Africa.
Expressing disappointment over the surgery, Bombito acknowledged his limitations during recent gameplay due to his tibia condition. Despite the setback, he remains determined to overcome this challenge and return to full fitness.
Bombito, who joined Nice in 2024 from the Colorado Rapids, had an impressive first season with 35 appearances. However, injuries limited his participation in the following season to just two matches.
