Three tourists lost their lives, and two others are currently missing following an avalanche in the Alps. The tragic incident occurred on the rocky Cima Vertana in the Ortles Mountain range in Italy’s South Tyrol region around 4pm.
Rescue operations are in progress to locate the two missing members of the group, who were ski mountaineering. A search involving helicopter rescue teams and firefighters is ongoing.
The victims, a 30-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman, and a 50-year-old man, were swept away while climbing, and their bodies were later recovered. Reports suggest that the avalanche occurred suddenly, with two climbers becoming trapped by debris and sustaining minor injuries.
