“Manhunt underway for dangerous sex offender Zahid”

Must Read

A manhunt is currently in progress for a dangerous sex offender, Muhammad Zahid, aged 59, from Burnley, Lancashire. Zahid attempted to rape an 11-year-old girl in 2021, but the brave victim fought back, preventing the assault. Following a trial at Burnley Crown Court on October 7, Zahid received a 10-and-a-half-year sentence, comprising nine years and six months in custody and an additional one year on extended licence due to his classification as a dangerous offender.

During the trial, Zahid fled while the victim was giving evidence and is now wanted on a Bench Warrant. DC Hannah Brown of Lancashire Police described Zahid as a dangerous individual who tried to seize the opportunity to rape a child, but was thwarted by the girl’s courage. Brown commended the victim for her bravery in reporting the incident and testifying in court.

In a statement to the court, the victim’s mother expressed how the incident had affected her daughter, causing distress and nightmares. However, with justice served, the victim has been able to move forward and find happiness. Zahid denied the charge of attempted rape but was found guilty by a jury. In addition to the prison term, he was issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and mandated to register as a sex offender for life.

Anyone with information on Zahid’s whereabouts is urged to contact the authorities immediately. To report any details, individuals can email 536@lancashire.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 349 of November 28, 2022.
