River Island has issued a product recall due to a potential chemical hazard for consumers. The Pink Floral Heat Seal Droplet Bucket Handbag has been withdrawn from sale as it was found to contain high levels of lead in its gold chain. Exposure to lead can lead to kidney and circulatory system damage, posing a particular risk to expectant mothers. The affected item carries the code 927917.
In an online recall notice, River Island stated that the decision to recall the product was made following testing that detected elevated lead levels in the handle, which does not meet the company’s safety standards. While the risk of harm from the lead content is considered low, the company emphasized the importance of customer safety and urged consumers to stop using the handbag immediately and arrange for its return for a full refund.
For returns, customers can send the product to River Island Customer Service Parcels Freepost, MK17 8EW, for both in-store and online purchases. Any inquiries can be directed to customer.services@river-island.com or by calling 03445 766 444.
Consumers are advised to stay informed about other product recalls by checking the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Chartered Trading Standards (CTS) Institute websites. Stores will also display recall notices if a product has been removed from shelves. Notable recalls in addition to River Island’s include Tesco’s withdrawal of Celery Fruit and Nut Salad due to undeclared mustard allergen and Kendamil infant milk due to a date-related issue. Amazon also recalled a children’s swim vest over concerns of drowning risk related to sizing and visibility concerns in water.
