Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been in communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to offer support amid a challenging season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has encountered difficulties adapting to the team, grappling with an underperforming car and questionable race strategies.
Hamilton’s struggles were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix, where he failed to advance from Q1 in qualifying and ultimately finished outside the points in 12th place. Currently occupying the sixth spot in the drivers’ standings, he risks slipping to seventh after the upcoming Abu Dhabi race.
Expressing his frustration with his debut Ferrari season, Hamilton has described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite putting in extensive efforts on and off the track. Recognizing his challenges, Mercedes has extended personal support to him. Bradley Lord, the chief communications officer, disclosed that discussions have been held to assist Hamilton during this trying period, with Wolff accompanying him to race locations for further support.
In a statement to CHAMP1, Lord conveyed empathy towards Hamilton, acknowledging his dedication and hard work. He emphasized the team’s belief in Hamilton’s potential to overcome this phase and return stronger in the future.
As Hamilton gears up for the final race in Abu Dhabi, aiming to maintain his sixth-place standing in the drivers’ championship, he faces the last drive with the current Ferrari model, plagued by multiple issues. Hamilton will be absent from the first free practice session, with Arthur Leclerc stepping in for him.
Despite the challenges faced, Ferrari’s team principal Fred Vasseur has urged the team to persevere and strive for a comeback to victory. The team remains focused on finishing the season positively before shifting attention to the 2026 campaign.
