Police have initiated an inquiry following a tragic incident where a council road sweeper struck and killed a pedestrian. A 63-year-old individual was apprehended under suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the accident occurred shortly before 2:15 pm yesterday. Subsequently, the individual was released pending further investigation.

The victim, an elderly man in his 80s, was swiftly taken to the hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.

The East Midlands Ambulance Service promptly alerted Leicester Police after the unfortunate event unfolded on Holy Bones in Leicester the previous day. Detectives from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are actively working to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

As part of their investigative efforts, authorities are seeking to interview witnesses or individuals with relevant information regarding the incident. Detective Sergeant Mike Steer emphasized the importance of understanding the circumstances surrounding the collision that claimed the man’s life.

The vehicle involved in the incident was identified as a Leicester City Council road sweeper. Collaboration with the council has been established to support the ongoing investigation.

Individuals who may have witnessed the accident are urged to contact 101, quoting crime reference 25*602370 for assistance in the investigation.

In a separate incident, a mother is seeking to lay her four-year-old son to rest in their garden after he was fatally struck by a bus while visiting his grandmother in the hospital. Zaahir Jan Feizi, from Canterbury, tragically could not be resuscitated despite rescue attempts. His mother, Azaria Green, is endeavoring to raise funds to purchase their rented home so that Zaahir can be buried in their garden.

Currently residing an hour’s walk away from the cemetery where Zaahir is interred, Azaria believes having her son’s resting place at home would aid in her grieving process. She expressed the desire to have Zaahir closer, stating that it would positively impact her mental well-being, which has been greatly affected by the loss.
