“Virgin Media Slashes Price of Gig1 Fibre Broadband”

Must Read

Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband service to a new all-time low. The company has introduced an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.

The Gig1 Fibre Broadband offers lightning-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, customers can now avail of this service for just £26.99 per month, resulting in a total savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, which translates to approximately 87p per day.

According to Virgin, this marks the lowest price ever offered for the Gig1 plan. With these speeds, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience over 90 minutes to download the same game, Virgin’s Gig1 service ensures smooth streaming of Netflix and seamless online gaming. However, it should be noted that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice within the minimum term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028.

Furthermore, the ultra-fast 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available to all UK households, so customers are advised to verify availability using Virgin’s postcode checker. Comparatively, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal outshines its competitors like Sky, which offers a comparable 900Mbps plan at a higher price of £28, and BT, with its 900Mbps connection priced at £37.99.

For those seeking even more affordable options, Community Fibre is providing 1Gbps speeds at £25 per month, with the first three months free and prices locked for the contract duration, albeit limited to London and select south-east locations.

It is essential for consumers to assess their actual requirements before committing to a broadband plan. For instance, a couple streaming Netflix nightly in a flat may suffice with 100Mbps speeds, while larger households engaged in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming may benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.

Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre service is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, offering a superior online experience.
