Alex Lamontagne shined with two goals in her first appearance for Vancouver. The Rise dominated the second half, scoring four goals, with Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also finding the back of the net.
Despite Elise Bell scoring a late goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, it wasn’t enough to stop the Rise’s momentum. The Rise’s quick succession of three goals in the early second half set the tone for their comfortable win at TD Place.
Following this win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, surpassing the Halifax Tide by one point. Their record now stands at seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. On the other hand, the Rapid, holding the top spot with 33 points, suffered their fourth loss of the season, now standing at 10 wins, three draws, and four losses.
During the game, the Rise maintained a slight edge in possession, with a 53% share compared to the Rapid’s 47%. They also outshot the hosts 17-8, with 11 of their shots on target. Vancouver also capitalized on corner kicks, securing four out of the seven awarded in the match. Both teams received two yellow cards each.
Looking ahead, the Rise will face the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, in their upcoming fixture. Meanwhile, the Rapid will be visiting AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30, as they aim to bounce back from their recent defeat.
