US Lawmakers Urge Ex-Prince Andrew to Testify

Must Read

Former Prince Andrew is facing criticism from US lawmakers for his lack of response as they intensify their investigation into the deceased billionaire pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew, who has been stripped of his royal titles and is preparing to leave his 30-room mansion, Royal Lodge, was urged by US politicians to provide testimony regarding his close association with Epstein, who died by suicide while in prison in 2019. Despite vehemently denying all allegations against him, Andrew has remained silent.

The House Oversight Committee, the primary investigative body in the House of Representatives, had formally requested an interview with Andrew to delve into Epstein’s case and the US government’s handling of it. A letter signed by 16 members of Congress was dispatched earlier in the month, setting a deadline for Andrew to respond by November 20.

Expressing disappointment at Andrew’s lack of cooperation, Democrats Ranking Member Robert Garcia and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam issued a scathing statement highlighting the significance of Andrew’s testimony in light of the evidence reviewed, public records, and Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s testimony. They emphasized their commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability regardless of individuals’ wealth, status, or political affiliations.

While the committee lacks the authority to compel non-US citizens or foreign nationals outside the US to testify, Andrew was not legally obligated to provide a response. This development comes shortly after King Charles stripped Andrew of his royal titles and as Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, detailing her ordeal with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, was released.

In a related development, Donald Trump, who also faced criticism for his ties to Epstein, eventually signed legislation allowing the release of the Epstein files after months of resistance. The decision followed a 427-1 House vote and unanimous Senate endorsement, indicating a shift under mounting pressure to disclose the documents.

Following his relinquishment of titles, Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, mirrored his actions. Despite currently residing together at Royal Lodge, they are expected to part ways as Andrew plans to move to a property on the King’s Sandringham estate in the upcoming New Year. Meanwhile, Fergie is tasked with securing her own accommodation as she navigates an uncertain future apart from her disgraced former spouse.

Royal expert Hilary Fordwich highlighted Sarah’s current state, describing her as anxious and uncertain about her future. Although the couple continues to cohabit and engage in discussions about their respective futures, they face public scrutiny and disapproval, particularly in light of Sarah’s association with Epstein and the ensuing fallout.
