A man who returned to the UK in a small boat after being deported has been deported once again.
The Home Office verified that the migrant, who was detained on both occasions upon arrival in Britain, was repatriated on a flight today. Initially expelled on September 19, he reentered nearly a month later, on October 18.
Under the new ‘one in one out’ agreement between the UK and France, a total of 94 individuals have been sent back to France. The UK Government stated that the man wasted his resources trying to enter the UK. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood commented, “Anyone attempting to re-enter the UK after expulsion under the UK-France pact is futile in their efforts and expenditure.
“This individual was identified through biometrics and promptly detained. His case was expedited, leading to his subsequent removal.
“My directive is unequivocal: if you endeavor to return to the UK, you will be repatriated. I am committed to enhancing the expulsion of illegal migrants and fortifying our borders.”
In a recent conversation with The Guardian, the man disclosed, “If I had believed France was safe for me, I would not have returned to the UK.” He recounted being taken to a shelter in Paris and expressed fear for his life, stating, “I refrained from going out due to safety concerns. The traffickers pose a significant threat.
“They are armed and dangerous. I fell victim to a human trafficking network in the forests of France before crossing to the UK from France for the first time.” He further revealed being menaced with a firearm and warned, “Any opposition would result in death.”
As per a recent arrangement established in July, individuals arriving in the UK via small boats can be detained and repatriated to France, with an equivalent number of legitimate asylum seekers heading the other way.
The Government anticipates that this initiative will dissuade individuals from paying traffickers substantial sums. Ministers aim to escalate the number of repatriations.
