“Trump Threatens ‘Most Crushing’ Economic Operation on Iran”

Must Read

President Trump declared on social media his intentions to carry out what he described as “the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY” on Iran. He referred to this action as Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale without providing many specifics.

He also cautioned of economic repercussions for any nation supporting Tehran or extending any form of assistance to Iran. Trump emphasized that any country allowing its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to aid Iran would face significant economic consequences.

Although he did not outline the exact measures the U.S. would implement against such nations, he mentioned various activities that he believed should cease immediately, such as oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies. Trump concluded by stating, “You know who you are.”

Amid a six-month-long conflict that involved countries across the Gulf and disrupted global markets, Iran showcased its ability to influence shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for a significant portion of the world’s oil trade before February.

Despite the U.S. and Iran announcing ceasefire agreements in April and June to restore shipping flows through Hormuz, these agreements quickly collapsed, even as Israel reduced its involvement in the conflict initiated with the U.S. in February.

Trump’s social media messages and warnings are not always fully elaborated upon or effectively carried out.

Regarding U.S.-Iran discussions, conflicting reports emerged. The United Arab Emirates, home to a key U.S. military base, suspended all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran after claiming to have detected two missiles launched from Iran, an assertion dismissed by Iran as unfounded.

China, a significant buyer of Iran’s oil, poses a challenge for the U.S. in engaging in further economic confrontations due to China’s status as a major exporter of essential rare-earth minerals to the U.S., potentially leading to retaliatory actions.

While an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader expressed openness to dialogue with the U.S., emphasizing that negotiations should not be mistaken for surrender, Trump denied ongoing talks with Iran. On the other hand, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and special envoy, suggested that talks with Iran were active and perhaps more substantial than ever.
