Shoe repair chain Timpson has introduced a new service for trading in mobile phones. Partnering with gadget resell company musicMagpie and its parent company AO, Timpson customers can now bring their unwanted smartphones to any Timpson store and receive instant cash.
Recent research indicates that 73% of adults in the UK own at least one unused smartphone at home, with an average trade-in value of approximately £250. The total value of these unused devices is estimated to be around £10 billion. While various online resell platforms exist, Timpson aims to cater to individuals who prefer face-to-face transactions, although similar options are available on the high street.
A survey revealed that 68% of people prefer to trade in their devices in person, with a quarter emphasizing the importance of immediate payment. Timpson and musicMagpie initiated a trial for the trade-in service four months ago and have now expanded it to over 1,300 Timpson stores across the UK.
John Roberts, CEO and founder of AO World, highlighted the convenience of the new service, stating that it eliminates the barrier of apathy towards trading in old tech. The partnership between musicMagpie and Timpson leverages the refurbishment expertise of the former and the extensive nationwide network of the latter to provide customers with quick cash for their old devices.
Steve Oliver, managing director of musicMagpie, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that adding Magpie to Timpson stores significantly enhances convenience for customers. Sid Hubbard, group director of Timpson, emphasized the trust and friendly service provided by their colleagues, enhancing the overall high street experience for customers.
Extending their long-standing tradition of repairing goods, Timpson is now offering smartphone trade-in services in collaboration with musicMagpie, providing customers with a sustainable and affordable solution for their old devices.
