Provincial authorities have confirmed the discovery of a third set of human remains at a location near Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The remains have been identified as those of Lawrence Bertrim, who was last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are still investigating the cause of his death, and no charges have been filed. A $50,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a conviction in Bertrim’s case.
Bertrim, who was 42 years old at the time of his disappearance, has been a missing person for nearly four years. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton of the OPP stated that finding Bertrim is a significant development for his family and the investigative team, who have been dedicated to this case. The police are urging the public to be patient as the investigation progresses.
Bertrim’s remains were discovered on the Kelly Jordan Road property on August 6, a day after another missing man, Robert Lambert, was found deceased on the same property in July. While no charges have been laid in Lambert’s case, authorities have indicated suspicions of foul play.
In a separate incident, the remains of Robbie Thomson were found on the same property in October 2025. Four individuals have been charged in connection with Thomson’s death, with three facing first-degree murder charges. Bertrim and Thomson were known to each other, as reported by CBC News in 2023. The two were also associated with 34-year-old Steven Tate, whose body was found along Highway 15 in November 2023.
The deaths of Tate, Bertrim, and Thomson have gripped the Smiths Falls community, with the discoveries of the remains deeply impacting the small town and surrounding rural area, according to local officials.
