A recent study found that 30% of Brits are more knowledgeable about Donald Trump than Prince Charles. The research, surveying 2,000 adults, showed that many Brits are equally familiar with American pop culture as they are with their own. Additionally, 40% of the daily information absorbed by participants is from the US, with a preference for Taylor Swift over Dua Lipa’s music.
Furthermore, nearly one in 10 individuals are more informed about the romantic lives of Zendaya and Tom Holland than about the Royal family, a percentage that rises to 29% among those aged 18 to 24. Moreover, 34% of the younger demographic have more knowledge about the Kardashians than about EastEnders.
A spokesperson from Lottoland.co.uk, who conducted the survey in conjunction with the US £520 million Powerball draw, noted the significant presence of captivating US culture easily accessible to the UK audience. They highlighted the diverse range of American cultural elements available, including TV, film, music, food, drink, and even politics.
The research also revealed that 18% of participants watch more American TV than British programs, with drama, comedy, and crime being the favored genres. In terms of music, pop, rock, and country from the US are popular among 88% of respondents who enjoy American cultural influences in their British lifestyle.
Aside from TV and music, American food (37%), books (24%), and sports (17%) are also well-received by Brits. Additionally, 15% partake in Thanksgiving celebrations in the UK, while one in 10 commemorate Independence Day on July 4th.
The study identified Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola as the top-rated American contributions, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee.
