A resilient and determined road worker, Brandon Belshaw, tragically lost his leg in a harrowing accident involving a resurfacing machine on October 3. Following the incident, Brandon received immediate medical attention, including a crucial blood transfusion at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital for urgent care.

After enduring multiple surgeries and spending five days on a ventilator, Brandon regained consciousness to discover the loss of his right leg. Recognized for his unwavering determination and positivity, Brandon’s brother, Jordan Smith, highlighted his brother’s selfless nature and resilience in the face of adversity.

Following the accident in Doncaster, emergency services, including South Yorkshire Police, responded to the scene, leading to the closure of Leicester Avenue in Intake. Brandon received further medical treatment at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, where he underwent surgeries and began his recovery process.

A fundraiser initiated by Brandon’s family has garnered significant support, raising over £20,000 to aid Brandon’s rehabilitation journey. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, family and friends plan to undertake a challenging 12-mile hike in the Lake District, culminating in summiting Helvellyn, a tribute to Brandon’s strength and perseverance.

The fundraising efforts will contribute to Brandon’s physical and mental rehabilitation, encompassing services such as physiotherapy and prosthetics. Additionally, the proceeds will assist in potential housing modifications and transport adaptations to facilitate Brandon’s independent lifestyle. A portion of the funds raised will be allocated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity, underscoring the community’s support for Brandon’s recovery.
