Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area, where a pilot was reportedly missing after a recent flight. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for overseeing search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced on social media that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake within Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The matter has been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, according to the JRCC’s statement. While not explicitly confirming if the plane belonged to the absent 73-year-old pilot named David, as identified by law enforcement, the JRCC made this known.
Earlier, Durham police disclosed that David took off from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m. David typically flies in the vicinity south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog, as noted by the police.
The Ontario Provincial Police had previously described the plane as a small blue homemade craft bearing the designation “FOFZ” on its tail. David, a seasoned pilot, is reported to be five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, sporting black grey hair and a moustache.
