Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have spoken out following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris, who finished second behind Max Verstappen, and Piastri, who came in fourth, had their results nullified due to technical issues found post-race.
The FIA revealed that excessive skid-block wear caused the disqualification, impacting the championship standings with only two races remaining. Norris now leads Piastri and Verstappen by 24 points before the upcoming races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Norris expressed disappointment over the disqualification, attributing it to car issues and emphasizing the team’s focus on delivering the best performance in future races. Piastri also expressed frustration but remains determined to secure points in the remaining rounds.
McLaren issued an apology to Norris and Piastri, acknowledging the breach of Technical Regulations regarding skid thickness. The team cited unexpected car behavior during the race as a contributing factor and emphasized their commitment to investigating the issue while maintaining focus on the remaining season races.
FIA scrutineers discovered that the skid thickness beneath the McLaren cars was below the required minimum, resulting in their disqualification from the race. This finding indicated a violation of ride height regulations, leading to their exclusion from the final race classification.
