Laura Mcloughlin began experiencing sharp pains in her right breast and detected a sizable lump in April 2020. She contacted her general practitioner who referred her to a breast clinic at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. During her visit, Laura was examined by a doctor nearing the end of his shift, who she described as rushed.
According to Laura, she did not undergo any scans at the initial appointment, and the doctor attributed the issue to hormonal factors, recommending a switch to non-wired bras. In August 2020, Laura revisited the clinic after noticing her right nipple had inverted, leading to an ultrasound and mammogram that revealed lobular breast cancer in her right breast.
Subsequently, doctors planned a double mastectomy to remove the 3.5-inch tumor. However, further investigations unveiled the cancer had metastasized to her lymph nodes and lower spine, rendering it incurable. Laura commenced targeted therapy treatment and has been on medication for the past five years.
Now, Laura is advocating for prompt medical attention for any unusual symptoms. Reflecting on her experience, she emphasized the importance of self-checking and seeking timely medical intervention. Laura shared her journey to raise awareness, aiming to inspire others to prioritize their health.
