Four individuals implicated in a London, Ontario investigation involving the production of explosives and firearms are now confronted with 19 additional charges as per court records filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. The quartet, all associated with Western University either as students or recent graduates, with the males having engineering backgrounds, now collectively face a total of 31 charges. The fresh charges encompass possession of five specific explosive materials, possession of stolen goods, and unauthorized access to computer data linked to firearm production.
The investigative process, which commenced on January 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University, led to the apprehension of the suspects. Subsequent investigations resulted in the search of multiple residences, including the primary location at 212 Chesham Place in London, where Wang, Han, and Ji were residing, in addition to properties in Orleans, Ottawa, and Gatineau.
Initial arrests included various firearms charges, such as handgun manufacturing and possession of restricted firearms. New charges have been laid against Tong, Wang, and Ji, including possession of firearm accessories and another prohibited weapon. Tong and Wang are further accused of mishandling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Moreover, Tong faces charges related to incidents in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a banned firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle in an unauthorized location in Quebec. Despite Tong having a firearms license, several charges pertain to possessing firearms outside the licensed premises.
In a separate development, Wang is charged with weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both Wang and Tong face allegations of breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Court documents unveiled additional charges against the group for possessing explosive substances, highlighting substances like PETN, TNT, DNP, HMTD, and lead azide. The accused were initially charged with possession of precursor materials and finished explosives. Additionally, they face a charge of possessing Western University property valued at less than $5,000.
Regarding computer-related charges, Wang is charged with accessing firearm-related data for manufacturing purposes. The accused individuals are navigating the legal process, with two on bail and two in custody. Tong declined bail and remains in custody, while Han was denied bail and detained in February. Wang secured bail under stringent conditions in March, while Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
