Instagram’s iconic text logo displayed on the app’s interface is undergoing a significant transformation, according to Adam Mosseri, the head of the platform. This marks the first alteration to the logo in a decade. The new design features a bolder and more structured font, a departure from the previous logo’s more flowing cursive style.
Mosseri expressed the need for a fresh look, stating on both Instagram and Threads that the updated logo is cleaner, modern, and pays homage to the original design while maintaining the simplicity and craftsmanship that define Instagram’s brand identity. This change is part of a broader brand update by Meta, the parent company, described as a forward-looking evolution that respects the company’s heritage.
However, not all reactions to the new logo were positive. Some users criticized the change, expressing disappointment and skepticism towards Meta’s decision-making. Despite the mixed feedback, Instagram remains one of Meta’s most popular platforms, boasting two billion daily users in the last quarter, surpassing many competitors in the social media landscape.
Notably, Instagram has faced controversy in the past with its updates, including a feature that allowed users to create AI-generated images from public posts, which was quickly scrapped following backlash. The platform has also been accused of borrowing features from other apps, such as the “Instants” feature drawing comparisons to BeReal, a short-lived app.
The responses to Mosseri’s announcement of the new logo were predominantly positive, with many praising the update for its fresh and timeless appearance. It is worth mentioning that Mosseri has limited comments on his posts, preventing everyone from leaving feedback directly on his account.
