Heathrow Airport to Increase “Kiss and Fly” Drop-Off Fee

Must Read

Heathrow Airport is set to increase its drop-off fee for the “kiss and fly” service by 16% starting in January. The current charge of £6 will rise to £7, with a maximum 10-minute time limit enforced to avoid additional charges of £80 for overstaying.

A representative from the airport stated that this adjustment aligns Heathrow’s drop-off fee with other major UK airports, aiming to reduce congestion, promote the use of public transportation, and ensure proper utilization of the terminal forecourts. Free drop-off and pick-up options are still accessible at all terminals through Park & Ride car parks.

Travel expert Guy Hobbs from consumer group Which? expressed concerns over the price increase and time restriction, noting that alternative free drop-off options are available at long stay car parks across major UK airports.

Heathrow reported that 95% of passengers currently complete drop-offs within the allotted 10 minutes, emphasizing the implementation of the time limit to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

The airport emphasized that the drop-off fee contributes to investments in bus, rail, and sustainable transport initiatives, encouraging passengers to consider environmentally friendly travel options. Heathrow’s website highlights the convenience of its drop-off areas outside each terminal and outlines payment methods for single or multiple drop-offs.

Recent figures revealed a 2% revenue increase to £2.7 billion for Heathrow in the first nine months of 2025, driven by long-haul flights and premium services. Despite a slight profit decrease to £1.5 billion, the airport continues to perform well financially.

Unlike some UK airports, Heathrow’s drop-off area is not designated for passenger pick-ups, which are directed to the airport’s car parks with minimal charges for 30 minutes of parking.

The rise in drop-off charges at Heathrow follows a trend among UK’s busiest airports, with more than half increasing their fees in 2025. While UK airports impose charges, many European airports offer free drop-off services, as reported by the RAC.

Research by the RAC indicated that several top airports have raised their drop-off prices, with the steepest increase observed at Belfast City Airport. The report highlighted London Luton and Manchester airports as the most expensive based on cost-per-minute charges.
