“Gen Z Embraces Rural ‘Run-Cations’ for Scenic Workouts”

Must Read

Gen Z, the tech-savvy and health-conscious generation, have embraced a new running trend as the cooler weather descends and autumn landscapes flourish. Instead of sticking to city routes, they are now favoring rural “run-cations” for their workouts, opting for scenic views and a countryside vibe.

A recent study by Airbnb and Strava reveals that a significant number of Gen Z runners are moving away from urban running spots. Around three-quarters have either planned or are considering embarking on a rural running adventure.

In collaboration with Strava, Airbnb is highlighting some of the UK’s most stunning rural running destinations this October. These locations offer not only beautiful running routes but also cozy accommodations and even complimentary treats from local bakeries.

While nearly half of young runners still prefer city runs, the majority express boredom and lack of inspiration due to factors like limited views, crowded spaces, and pollution. Evelina Jarbin, Senior Director of Strava for Business, notes the evolving trend of seeking new ways to stay active and connect with others through exercise and exploration.

It’s no surprise that many are eagerly anticipating or considering a countryside running experience to disconnect from city life and embrace nature. The Strava app’s Maps tab offers a plethora of real run routes created by the community, with the added bonus of post-run treats at local bakeries, a favorite among 72% of runners.

Luke Impett, Partnerships and External Affairs for Northern Europe at Airbnb, emphasizes the partnership with local bakeries to reward runners and foster connections within local communities.

For the best running routes at these prime locations, interested individuals can visit the Strava website for more information. The top five run-cation destinations and recommended Airbnb stays are listed on the platform.

From the Forest of Dean along the Welsh border with its picturesque wooded paths to Fife in Scotland offering coastal views, these destinations cater to runners of various skill levels seeking diverse terrains and landscapes. Additionally, locations like Mam Tor and the River Cam provide a perfect blend of challenge and relaxation for adventurous runners.
