Convicted Pedophile Ian Watkins Fatally Assaulted in Prison

Must Read

Ian Watkins, a convicted pedophile and former musician, may have been assaulted in prison due to his refusal to pay for protection, as per reports.

The 48-year-old Watkins was fatally attacked at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Despite being discovered severely injured in his cell, he could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

According to a source cited by The Mirror, the attack seemingly stemmed from Watkins’ non-compliance with demands for payment. The source mentioned there were no previous conflicts or interactions between them, indicating the assault was likely a result of Watkins’ unwillingness to pay.

Two inmates, aged 43 and 25, were under interrogation following Watkins’ tragic death. Watkins, serving a 29-year sentence for various sexual offenses, was found critically injured in his cell early on Saturday morning.

Reports confirm that Watkins was attacked with a knife by another prisoner. The West Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident, with the prison staff reporting the assault and Watkins being pronounced dead on-site.

The fatal assault on Watkins occurred within a context of escalating violence towards sex offenders in the prison wing where he was housed, according to recent inspector warnings. An inspection report highlighted a significant rise in violence within the facility.

A spokesperson from the Prison Service acknowledged the incident at HMP Wakefield but refrained from providing further details due to the ongoing police investigation.

The death of Watkins did not elicit sympathy from his former girlfriend, Jo Mjadzelics, who exposed his criminal behavior. She expressed shock at the delay in his demise, having repeatedly alerted authorities about Watkins’ predatory behavior towards children.

Mjadzelics had reported Watkins to law enforcement and social services multiple times over several years, raising concerns about his despicable crimes against children.

South Yorkshire Police officers and South Wales Police missed numerous opportunities to intervene despite multiple warnings about Watkins’ dangerous inclinations, as detailed in an Independent Police Complaints Commission report.

Jo Mjadzelics had a tumultuous relationship with Watkins, who eventually faced justice in 2012 following a police raid at his residence. She expressed a mix of shock and relief at Watkins’ demise, emphasizing the long-overdue nature of his fate.

Ian Watkins gained fame as a rock star in his twenties, achieving commercial success with Welsh band Lostprophets. The band released several albums and achieved chart success in both the UK and the US.
