In Edinburgh, a bold act was caught on camera as two individuals were seen taking a tumble dryer from a stranger’s driveway. The peculiar incident unfolded at a residence in Silverknowes last Friday while the homeowner was away for several hours. The homeowner stated that the footage shows two men helping themselves to the tumble dryer from the bottom of the driveway.
The owner had intended to gift the old appliance to a family member after purchasing a new one. The replaced tumble dryer was left outside as the new one had been installed inside, with an agreement to give it to her niece.
During a brief absence of around 40 minutes, the two men took advantage of the situation and made off with the dryer from the property. The matter has been reported to the police in Scotland, who have initiated investigations.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the resident explained the sequence of events involving the tumble dryer: “I bought a new efficient heat pump dryer to replace my old one, which was still functional and in good condition. Since the company didn’t offer recycling, I had to schedule a pickup with EDC bulky uplift, which took nearly three weeks.”
She added, “We had no space indoors for the old dryer, so I placed it outside on my driveway, away from the street, awaiting the pickup. Meanwhile, my niece expressed interest in the dryer, and I agreed to give it to her if it fit her space.”
While the resident’s husband briefly left the house for socializing, the two audacious individuals trespassed onto the property despite her car being in the driveway, and without permission, took the dryer. The resident expressed concerns about the safety of their property due to such incidents occurring frequently.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed receiving a theft report from a property in Silverknowes, Edinburgh, on Friday, 10th October 2025, and reassured that inquiries are ongoing.
