Lucas Horne, known by his stage name BTO (Beat The Odds), unearthed his musical prowess following a life-threatening AVM (arteriovenous malformation) rupture in his brain, defying the slim 1% survival odds. Expressing gratitude for his survival, Lucas shared, “I feel incredibly fortunate.”
Nominated for a Future Talent Award, Lucas leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) in his music creation journey, with his track titled “AI Gave Me A Voice” commencing with the poignant lyrics, “I pinch myself every day because this just can’t be true.”
Reflecting on the life-altering event that transpired when he was 17, Lucas vividly recalled the sudden rupture of the “ticking timebomb” in his brain one December morning. Hospitalized in critical condition, Lucas battled through a coma on his 18th birthday, defying the grim 1% survival prognosis.
Despite experiencing post-coma challenges, including speech impairment and the need for a tracheostomy, Lucas remained resilient. He turned to songwriting as a coping mechanism during his recovery, transforming his ordeal into musical expressions.
Embracing AI to refine his sound, Lucas shared, “I delved into music post-coma, refining it with AI’s assistance to reach a wider audience.” While some in the creative field frown upon AI integration, notable artists like will.i.am and Sir Paul McCartney have embraced certain technological aspects.
Balancing charity work, accountancy studies, and music production, Lucas expressed his elation over the award nomination, emphasizing the importance of embracing life’s challenges. Encouraging a positive outlook, he remarked, “It’s about changing perspectives. I may face obstacles, but I’m determined to persevere and create music I’m proud of.”
