“British Public’s Trust in US Plummets Under Trump: Study”

Must Read

A recent study has revealed a significant decline in British people’s confidence in the United States over the past year, following Donald Trump’s assumption of office. The research indicates that a majority of individuals (56%) now express distrust towards the US, in contrast to only 40% shortly after Trump’s re-election in November 2024.

Merely one in five Britons currently place their trust in America under Trump’s leadership, a notable drop from a third of the population just last November. This shift in sentiment comes after a period where Trump’s actions as a hesitant ally against Russia and a proposed trade agreement with the UK resulted in a worsened economic situation compared to a year ago. The findings are part of a forthcoming report to mark the first anniversary of Trump’s return to the Oval Office.

According to a YouGov poll commissioned by the campaign organization Best for Britain, after just nine months back in power, the European Union is now viewed as the UK’s most dependable partner. Sir Kim Darroch, the former British Ambassador to the US, criticized Trump’s inconsistent response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, highlighting fluctuating stances on sanctions, NATO commitments, and collective defense principles.

In light of these developments, Naomi Smith, Chief Executive of Best for Britain, emphasized the importance of pragmatic collaboration with the EU to enhance the economy, reduce costs, and ensure collective security. Smith underscored the necessity for the UK government to prioritize working closely with Europe, cautioning that the Labour party faces potential electoral repercussions if it fails to accelerate engagement with Brussels amidst ongoing economic challenges.
