“Bleed Your Radiator for Just 97p, British Gas Expert Advises”

Must Read

A specialist from British Gas has shared tips on how to address cold areas in your radiator, with a cost-effective solution priced at just 97p. If you notice cold patches on your radiator, particularly at the top, or hear gurgling sounds with slow heating, bleeding the radiator could resolve the issue. This simple task requires a radiator key, available for as little as 97p at Screwfix, to release trapped air.

Before commencing the bleeding process, ensure to turn off the heating system and allow the radiator to cool completely to avoid any potential burns. Prepare by having an old towel and a container to catch the water that will be released. Locate the small valve on the radiator, use the key to turn it anti-clockwise, and listen for a hissing sound signifying air escaping. Once water starts flowing, catch it in the container, then tighten the valve and repeat the process on other radiators.

It is crucial not to over-bleed the radiator, as excessive air release can lower boiler pressure. If problems persist after bleeding, contacting a Gas Safe registered engineer is recommended for further inspection.

In another energy-saving tip, British Gas engineer Jessica Rawstron suggests keeping the oven door open after cooking to maximize heat transfer into the kitchen, aiding in maintaining warmth in the house. However, precautions should be taken to keep children and pets away from the open oven door.

Energy bills have recently increased, with the average household paying around £1,758 annually for gas and electricity. While the price cap limits unit rates and standing charges, the total bill still depends on energy usage, especially if not on a fixed tariff. For those using pre-payment meters, the price cap is now set at £1,711 per year, and for bill payment recipients, it stands at £1,894 annually.
