“Teacher’s Jealous Rage: Rape and Murder of Boyfriend’s Daughter”

Must Read

In a tragic incident, a malevolent nursery school teacher committed a horrifying act by raping and killing her boyfriend’s four-year-old daughter. The perpetrator, Amber Lee Hughes, confessed to the brutal murder of Nada-Jane Chalita, a crime fueled by her unfounded suspicions of her partner’s infidelity.

On January 23, 2023, while Nada-Jane’s father, Elie, was away for a job interview in Johannesburg, Hughes, enraged by a perceived snub, forced the child into a bathtub and sat on her until she drowned. Initially denying the charges of murder, Hughes later pleaded guilty, admitting to leaving the child’s body in the tub with the water running.

During the trial, it emerged that Hughes had sent threatening messages to Elie before the murder, indicating premeditation. Tragically, a post-mortem examination revealed that Nada-Jane had been sexually assaulted prior to her death.

Claiming past trauma and mental health issues as contributing factors, Hughes expressed deep regret for her actions in court. However, the judge deemed her crimes as premeditated, noting her threatening messages before the incident.

Having started a tumultuous relationship with Elie in 2021, Hughes faced charges of premeditated murder and rape, carrying potential life imprisonment sentences in South Africa. Elie, devastated by the loss of his daughter, expressed his despair over the delayed justice and the irreplaceable void left by the tragedy.

The victim’s family experienced further anguish as sentencing was postponed until February 16, 2026. If you need support, the Samaritans offer a 24/7 helpline for those in distress.
