Fitbit has a long history of promoting physical activity through its wearables, spanning over 15 years. Now, under the ownership of Google, the company has introduced a new product: the Fitbit Air. This innovative device offers a more affordable and convenient way to monitor daily fitness levels. Unlike previous Fitbit models, the Fitbit Air does not feature a screen and instead resembles popular Whoop bands, designed to be worn on the wrist like a fashionable accessory.
While the lack of a screen means sacrificing features like message reading, heart rate monitoring, and exercise statistics display, the Fitbit Air comes with its own set of advantages. It boasts a comfortable bracelet-style strap design, which has been rated as more comfortable than its competitors in a recent study conducted by Google.
One standout feature of the Fitbit Air is its impressive battery life, lasting up to a week on a single charge. Additionally, the device offers fast charging capabilities, providing a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The inclusion of a new magnetic charger with bi-directional technology eliminates the need to worry about the orientation when recharging the device.
Despite its sleek and minimalistic appearance, the Fitbit Air retains all the core functionalities of a Fitbit device. It can monitor various aspects of health, including sleep patterns, activity levels, daily exercise, heart rate, and even detect conditions like AFib, alerting users to irregular heart rhythms. Internally, the Fitbit Air is equipped with features such as an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor.
Since it lacks a screen, the Fitbit Air sends all collected data directly to smartphones. Users can access a comprehensive overview of their health through the Google Health Coach app. The device is fully water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be available in four color options: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender.
The Fitbit Air will be priced at £84.99 when it hits the market, offering a budget-friendly option for those looking to track their fitness goals effectively.
