Tesco is set to distribute numerous complimentary Christmas trees for a single day only. The Christmas trees in question, often deemed “wonky,” are typically not sold due to minor imperfections like uneven branch spacing or slight leaning. However, Tesco plans to give them away at no cost on December 6 in specific stores, urging recipients to consider donating to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be available at selected stores including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra starting from 10 am. Each household will be limited to one tree on a first-come, first-served basis. Comparable Christmas trees at other retailers start at £13.99 at Aldi and £14.99 at Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized embracing the imperfect charm of these trees, noting that imperfections can bring joy and warmth to any home during the festive season. A recent survey conducted for Tesco revealed that a significant portion of Brits schedule tree decoration for the second weekend of December. The survey also indicated that most people agree that Christmas does not need to be flawless to be special, with imperfect moments adding to the holiday spirit.
In a separate initiative, Tesco announced a promotion for Clubcard members, offering double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December. This promotion covers all third-party gift cards purchased at Tesco stores, automatically crediting double points to the Clubcard accounts of members. Tesco’s Clubcard program, with approximately 24 million members, rewards points for various purchases including groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile usage, and Tesco credit card transactions. Members can redeem points for Clubcard vouchers starting at 150 points, equivalent to £1.50 to spend at Tesco.
