Must Read

Irish sprinter She’s Quality tragically passed away at a hospital following a pelvic fracture sustained during a race at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California. The four-year-old filly, known for her successful career with earnings exceeding £250,000, was under the ownership of Jack Davison, based in Dunboyne, Co Meath. Throughout 2025, she achieved four second-place finishes in Group competitions, showcasing her talent.

Initially considered a strong contender for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, She’s Quality’s race took a sudden turn as she fell to the back of the field, prompting her jockey, Colin Keane, to halt the race on the back stretch. Following the incident, veterinarians quickly attended to her with concerns for her well-being.

The on-call veterinarian for the Breeders’ Cup, Dr. Scott Hay, expressed that She’s Quality displayed signs of right hind lameness without any apparent limb injuries. Subsequently, she was transported to a hospital for further evaluation by veterinary experts.

Sadly, within 24 hours, Jack Davison announced the devastating news of She’s Quality’s passing due to a pelvic fracture suffered during the race. Despite receiving immediate care at the San Luis Rey Equine Hospital post-event, her condition deteriorated overnight, leading to the difficult decision to humanely euthanize her.

Davison expressed profound sadness over the loss of their prized filly, acknowledging her exceptional talent and the impact she had on their team. The statement also conveyed gratitude to the staff for their dedicated care over the years, highlighting the deep sense of loss felt within their close-knit stable.

The Breeders’ Cup extended their condolences, recognizing the profound impact of She’s Quality’s passing on all those involved in the care and admiration of equine athletes.
