An 11-year-old boy fell victim to a school employee who subjected him to sexual assault, bombarding him with 5,000 unsettling messages and luring him with presents.
Alyson Cranick, a 44-year-old mother of two, enticed the young boy into meeting her over a period of several months. Allegedly, she met with the child 11 times, taking him to various locations and engaging in inappropriate activities with him inside her car. Authorities revealed that Cranick even persuaded the child to sneak out of his home after midnight on multiple occasions in 2022. During these encounters, Cranick provided the boy with caffeinated drinks to keep him awake and gifted him items like AirPods and a pellet gun.
The disturbing exploitation began when Cranick initiated contact with the boy through text and Snapchat. She later convinced him to switch their conversations to Discord after discovering that a family member was monitoring his social media interactions.
According to the US Attorney’s Office District of Connecticut, the 44-year-old sent over 4,700 messages to the boy via Discord between July and October 2022.
In a shocking development, Cranick allegedly crafted a bracelet for the child bearing the acronym “BFFLWB,” which stood for “Best Friends for Life With Benefits,” as detailed in an arrest warrant. The child eventually ceased communication with Cranick after reportedly being emotionally manipulated into spending more time with her, according to law enforcement.
The accused was apprehended on November 14, 2023, on related charges and has remained in custody since November 28 of the same year. Cranick faced federal charges in July 2024 and is scheduled for sentencing on February 12, 2026, with a potential minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, extendable to life imprisonment.
Cranick was terminated from her role as an administrative assistant at E.O. Smith High School in Mansfield, Connecticut, in September 2023.
The investigation into the former school employee was conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and the Connecticut State Police’s Eastern District Major Crime Unit.
This distressing incident follows another case where a teacher allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old student and subsequently stalked him post-breakup.
Teresa Whalin, 28, stands accused of partaking in a sexual relationship and exchanging explicit images with the teenager beginning in April 2023. Allegedly, the teen experienced mental health challenges following the alleged misconduct.
An affidavit revealed that the student described the relationship with the teacher as “dating,” involving Snapchat messages, dining together, and spending time in her classroom.
Following the student’s decision to cut off contact with the teacher, she reportedly began stalking him as she struggled to cope with the breakup, according to law enforcement.
