A new train station, the first on the Eastern mainline in a century, is set to open ahead of schedule. Costing £175 million, Beaulieu Park station near Chelmsford, Essex, is a key part of a green initiative project. Passengers can start using the station on October 26th, benefitting from a reliable service of up to four trains per hour during peak times and two trains per hour during off-peak hours.
Essex County Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Louise McKinlay, praised the station as a pivotal part of the region’s infrastructure growth strategy. The station’s completion ahead of schedule is seen as a significant milestone in enhancing travel convenience for Chelmsford and its neighboring areas.
The station’s development is part of a larger plan to transform transportation in the region, easing congestion at the busy Chelmsford station and reducing reliance on cars for city travel. The station is a crucial addition to the Beaulieu and Channels neighborhoods, which are part of the Chelmsford Garden Community initiative.
The Garden Community project includes the construction of over 4,350 homes, a primary and secondary school, and various community amenities. Further expansion plans include more homes, schools, employment spaces, and cycling routes, promising a comprehensive development in the area.
Beaulieu Park Station is expected to boost economic activity in the region by providing improved access to job opportunities. Greater Anglia’s Managing Director, Martin Beable, anticipates a high level of interest and usage from travelers in Essex once the station becomes operational.
