In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million USD. This sale marked the highest price ever paid for a prop used in any “Star Wars” film, as confirmed by the auction house.
The upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions on November 12 will feature a Darth Vader lightsaber utilized in the iconic duel at Cloud City where the memorable line “I am your father” was spoken to Skywalker. This lightsaber, also seen in “Return of the Jedi,” is anticipated to command a minimum of $1 million USD. The auction will showcase over two dozen lightsaber props from various “Star Wars” episodes, along with props from other productions within the universe created by George Lucas.
Among the items up for auction are the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each expected to sell for at least $10,000 USD. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster used by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is projected to fetch over $100,000 USD.
Noteworthy pieces also include a Yoda puppet hand operated by Frank Oz in the original appearance of the character in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Anthony Daniels’ signed third-draft screenplay for the original 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
